Prayers for Bobby

17 September, 2019

On 5 September, 2019, Prayers for Bobby movie-watching took place at New Generation Humanitarian NGO office, which is based on real story. The film is about a caring and kind mother Merry Griffit and his son Bobby. Mary is a Christian and faithful woman who lives with her husband, Robert, and has a happy family where they raise their four children. The joy and happiness of a family ends when their young son Bobby expresses his sexual orientation.

Every day Mary tries to “correct” her son, put her on the right track, and keep her away from “sin.” However, his efforts lead to more problems and greater misery.

Mary's attitude, upbringing, and prayers immerse Bobby in stress, loneliness, and depression. Bobby leaves home, but is still haunted by his mother's words and the memories of his family. Feeling defenseless, lonely, abandoned, Bobby ends his life.

Mary Griffith, realizing her mistake made against her son, begins to fight for and actively participate in the rights and freedoms of LGBT people in her country.

The film was screened by LGBT people and alliess who were impressed with the story. The goals of the movie are to create opportunities for like-minded and LGBT people to gather, share ideas, discuss, and get to know each other.
